A Selection of 7 Catalogues from
F. Davidson & Co.

Originators of the DAVON Super-Microscope

F. Davidson & Co. were at 29 Great Portland Street (circa 1890 to 1922) and then at 143 Great Portland Street until about 1938. The catalogues herein date from the 1920's to early 1930's. Their works were at 20 Heath St. N.W.3.
Davidson's claims for his Super Microscope and the method used to obtain 'higher magnifications' were the subject of much debate, some acrimonious, and letters appeared in many scientific publications including English Mechanic.
What was pointed out was that the limiting factor in resolution was the resolving power of the primary objective and any magnification thereafter was 'empty magnification'. Davidson argued that by using a lower power objective with greater depth of field the resultant highly magnified image afforded a better view of an object. Judge for yourselves.
