Cell division in Micrasterias papillifera

Micrasterias papillifera undergoing cell division

During the process of cell division both parts of the cell move away from each other; each half forms a new half cell.

When we look at a cell of Micrasterias we must realize that each half of the cell has a different age. We often see that one half of the cell is a little bit smaller than the other half.
