Larva of a Sea Urchin
Echinocardium cordatum

click image to see the next echinoderm

The larva of the common sand-burrowing heart urchin. Characteristic is the single spine at one end.

The spines will eventually become longer and more numerous. In the end a little disc will develop on the larva. When the disc grows into a little sea urchin the remains of the larva will slowly disappear.
