Water mint is found throughout most of Europe in wet places. This particular one was found near a pond in Walton-on-the-hill, S. England. Its minty smell is rather like a mix between garden mint and peppermint.
Mintstead ("mint place") in Hampshire and Minety ("mint stream") in Wiltshire are situated along a tributary of the Upper Thames, both are named after the Water Mint.
