Vascular bundle of Zea (corn). The stain gives each type of cell a different colour. The large red xylem vessels are thick, strong, inflexible and watertight and enable water transport and structural support for the plant. The blue area above the two large vessels consists of phloem sieve tube elements with smaller companion cells.
