Human Sebaceous Gland In Skin

Human Sebaceous Gland

Sebaceous glands are found throughout human skin where they assist the hair follicle in maintaining the healthy condition of skin hair. You are observing a vertical section of human skin taken from just below the surface.
Sebaceous glands produce an oil called sebum, whick keeps the skin hair supple and waterproof. The duct of the gland is shown -{3}. Below this, it is possible to see cells breaking down and releasing the sebum -{1}.

At the base of the gland, complete cells can be seen with their nuclei intact -{2}. These glands are most numerous on the head, face, chest and back of humans.
