No Movie (movie won't play?)
Our movie should work on most PCs. Quality of playback will depend on the the speed of your cdrom, your PCs sound capability and the processor speed. You will need to ensure your PC graphics card is able to display 24 bit resolution images for best results.

Images and sequences will look best when viewed in 24 bit colour and in a screen resolution of 1024 x 768, although a usable view is obtained at 800x600 screen resolution. If  your CDRom is only able to play at 1x or 2x speed, you may experience sporadic start/stop playback of video sequences.

We have used the Intel Indeo version 3.2 codec to encode the 56 minute video. The Indeo drivers - any version from 3.2 upwards must be present on your pC for you to be able to play the movie! Indeo drivers are included in most versions of Windows. If you do not have the drivers, we have distributed them on this cdrom in the directory called \vid_drvs. See below!

Video Drivers
There are many methods and formats used to deliver video content by way of CDrom and computer technology. To ensure our video sequences are available to the widest possible base of PC users, we have coded our video using Indeo Codecs in AVI format. Most PCs should have these drivers already installed to play our videos. We encoded using Indeo 3.1 but all of the Indeo codecs up to and including version 5.? are backwards compatible. We have included these drivers on the CDrom in the directory named \vid_drvs. If for some reason, our video will not play on your PC, we recommend you install the appropriate Indeo Video Codec on your PC by RUNNING the most suitable .exe  file from this directory (depends on your operating : Win3.1, Win95, WinNT, Win98 etc.,). Consult the readme.txt file in the \vid_drvs directory for more detailed  information.

Still Images
Around 500 still images taken from the video sequence have been included on this cdrom. The best of these are used for the named subject option where each topic is carefully tutored again to reinforce the learning experience obtained when watching the video.

The best of  these files are in JPG (jpeg) format and are accessible automatically when used the named subject feature from the front index page. Near-duplicate images or ones considered to be close duplicates are not automatically displayed since they are considered as not required. We have included them on the cdrom in case some fine aspect about a close or near duplicate image might prove useful. These images are accessible by manually exploring the image directories on the cdrom.

Your Notes and access to YOUR resources
To ensure our cdrom is not a 'closed' system, we have included a function for you to 'break-out' from the cdrom to access related material (possibly your own notes or files and images created by third parties) which reside on your hard disk drive, network, or floppy disks. To create your part of the link, you need to make (create) a directory from the root directory on the appropriate hard disk or floppy disk and call it \tissues

So if you were using drve C: you would create a directory which would become c:\tissues\

Note:  all lower case letters for directory name.

In this directory you can store your own files in either .html, .txt, or .doc format such that each file is named as in the image example below. We are showing an example here based on you using .txt files but you could create a browser-accessible bacteria.html instead of the bacteria.txt file or in place of any of the other files.

If you create your own html file for each subject, and place further links in your html file to other pages of your material or college material, you can use our cdrom as part of a larger and more intensive training package for students.

Another use of this feature is that students may make their own notes using notepad, wordpad, or Word for Windows and store them on personal floppy disks. Tthey should use a directory called \tissues and filenames shown in the above image example to hold and store their personal notes on their floppy disks. By ensuring each student inserts his prepared floppy disk into the floppy drive prior to using the YOURNOTES feature, he or she will be able to relate to these during the subjct presentations. By clicking on the browser's menu/view/page source, the student can even update his or her notes when using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your main browser.

The YOURNOTES feature allows rudimentary linking between our cdrom and your own resources and ensures there is no need to use up your own hard-disk space to hold copies of our cdrom files.

Access to your resources is achieved by clicking on the refer to your notes tag when viewing the still images for each subject and sub-topic or by clicking on a subject namein the list to the far right in both the movie and main index screen.
