These Emails
were written by Mol Smith to friends and associates during the week October
15th 1999 to October 22nd 1999.They form a 'field-record' of events which
took place near Chelsham, on the Surrey, Kent, borders - England. Not all
were received. I have indicated those emails written, and found on the
recovered lap-top, which Mol was unable to send due to exhausted power
supplies.Where he mentions digital 'stills' or 'video', I have linked to these from the email accounts!

Day

October 15th 1999
Day 1 - Friday 15th October 1999
To friends.
Hi,
My emails may be a bit shorter than usual. I am away camping
with Larry and
Vanessa. They had this notion about getting
away from civilization for a
break. I've had a tough time these last 5 months - so when they
rang and
invited me along, I thought hey... why not. So here I am in these
woods
under canvas and with my cameras, cell phone, lap-top and a few
spare
batteries.
I set up a program at home on my PC so I could communicate with it
to a
limited degree via my lap-top and cell phone. Mark is handling the
business
side for a week or so. I should be able to receive your emails but
there
might be some glitches or delays in answering. First time I've tried
this
remote working stuff.
I have my night-vision camera with me too, and bought a more powerful
infra-red light a few weeks back, so it should be fun
going out in the dark and filming some of the local animals at night.
Its pretty cold here. First frost of the year in our neck of England.
Vanessa & Larry
say the woods are haunted and they insist on reading stories
to me from the old books they brought with them about this area.
Something
about witches and all that rubbish. I think they are just tying
to spook me
:))
Larry's about to break open the beer and I need to preserve my batteries.
If
you get a moment please just write back and confirm you got my email.
I got
one earlier from Marls which proves my PC at home is at least intercepting
my pop mail box at pre-programmed times and storing my mails locally.
If it
fails to work as planned for the week, I'm snookered
because I never got
time to set up my email accounts directly on the lap-top. Only got
pc-pc
commas going... just... before I left. Not certain how long the
batteries
will hold out. We got a lift here so no car or anything to use for
charging
up etc.
Time for a beer and then bed. There's a very ancient Norman church
close-by
so we are going to check that out in the morning. Hope you are all
enjoying
your nice warm beds tonight. Larry has Vanessa - but I'm on my own.
Didn't
even think to bring my own sleeping bag so I have the old and somewhat
worn
spare one.
I'll try and keep in contact.
regards,
Mol
