This month he assesses the merits of using diffuse circular oblique lighting. A close-up view of the torch lily - Brian Johnston (Canada) illustrates the macro and microscopic features of this attractive flower. Spring pond harvest - Richard Howey (USA) shares an illustrated essay looking at a selection of microscopic fauna and flora. A small microfauna sediment sampler - Walter Dioni (Mexico) shares a simple device for collecting and studying organisms from such samples. Machining microscope parts - Robert Pavlis (USA) shares practical suggestions and hints for purchasing and using equipment in the home engineering workshop. A close-up view of the wild flower 'small flowered white aster' - Brian Johnston (Canada) illustrates the attractive features of this plant on the macro and microscopic scale. Product review: The Bresser Makro-Stand for converting compact binoculars into a stereo microscope - David Walker (UK) assesses an example of this popular design and compares its performance with a typical laboratory stereo, the Meiji EMZ1.
